DAY 2: Early Morning Hiking of Mt. Sabinyo

Mount Sabinyo is a Virunga volcano, and today you will begin the ascent to its peak, which is accessible only from the park. At an elevation of 3,645 meters (11,959 ft), the mountain’s peak serves as a meeting point for the borders of the DRC, Rwanda, and Uganda. Mount Sabinyo provides a home for mountain gorillas, a species that is in grave risk of extinction.

Along the Sabinyo slopes, you may observe the craters and jagged ridges that characterize the rough landscape. Depending on your pace and the weather, the Mount Sabinyo trip might take up to eight hours to reach the peak and four hours to descend. It’s a full-day trek. While the porters can be hired, walking sticks are given out for free. The vegetation you’ll encounter spans from 2400 to 2800 meters, with a focus on the bamboo zone. Take a break and eat your packed lunch after climbing to the park. Get going down the mountain. Go back to the lodge and spend the night there after dinner.
