North of Mount Elgon in northeastern Uganda is the Pian Upe Wildlife Reserve. Originally named Debasien Animal Sanctuary, this magnificent wildlife reserve was established in 1964 and subsequently renamed Pian Upe Wildlife Reserve. The Pian Upe wildlife reserve is situated on a relatively high plateau, which is surrounded by undulating grasslands all the way to Lake Kyoga’s shores.
